Microbiologist (VBDS) - (Richmond, CA)

SUMMARY Heluna Health (HH) and the California Department of Public Health’s Vector-Borne Disease Section (VBDS) are recruiting for the position of Microbiologist. The VBDS laboratory supports statewide surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases such as endemic and emerging mosquito-borne arboviruses, Lyme disease, and plague. In addition to testing environmental samples such as ticks, fleas, and animal blood for vector-borne and zoonotic disease agents, VBDS laboratory tests mosquitoes for molecular and enzymatic markers that indicate potential pesticide resistance. The Microbiologist will collaborate together with the current VBDS Microbiologist to conduct weekly serological assays of sentinel chicken sera for statewide arbovirus testing (EIA, IFA, and WB tests) and to conduct other vector-borne disease assays as indicated.
