Translator/Interpreter ASL Part Time - (Frostburg, MD)

Reports to: Center Manager Position description: This position is responsible for translating calls to and from the speech and hearing impaired. All calls must be translated accurately and all call content must be held in strict confidence. Required functions: • Translate effectively between American Sign Language and English for relay calls. • Translate relay calls accurately, quickly and without deliberate alteration of the messages. • Utilize the “team” approach with relay operators to provide consumers with accurate, timely and good communication. • Enters and reads type written text on a standard computer monitor and keyboard. • Adheres to strict confidentiality rules and standards. • Works a variety of shifts. • Learns and adheres to proper Relay procedures. • Sees situations from the relay user’s point of view. • Acts in a pleasant and patient manner at all times when dealing with relay users. • Understands directions and info given by the relay user.
