Freelance local city beat reporter - (Madison, MS)

The Clinton Courier, a twice-monthly, locally-owned community newspaper with a circulation of 9,000, is accepting resumes for a freelance city beat reporter. Reporting duties may include attendance at civic meetings; covering government, school, community and human interest stories; and limited feature writing. The Clinton Courier considers itself a positive hometown newspaper with a focus on bettering the community we represent, with a mission of providing good news our community can use. Applicants should have a experience in journalism or a related position. Strong emphasis is placed on accuracy; expertise to submit stories in AP style with few to no grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors; adherence to deadlines and ms word count limits; professionalism when representing the paper in person, on the phone or electronically; accessibility for story assignments; and a positive approach to community news. Sports-writing abilities are preferred but not required.
