Associate Beekeeper and Educator - (Hinton, WV)
Job details: Appalachian Headwaters is a nonprofit organization focused on sustainable economic development and restoration of former mined land in central Appalachia. 1 of Headwaters' major initiatives is the advancement of beekeeping in central Appalachia. To this end, the group is developing a Beekeeping Collective, a beekeeping training and support program throughout the region. The immediate two-year goal of this program is to establish 2,000 hives among new West Virginia beekeepers and train and support beekeepers throughout the region. As part of this program, Headwaters will operate a honey extracting and processing service for its member beekeepers. Headwaters is also developing a Sustainable Education Center in Summers County, West Virginia, in the big bend of the Greenbrier River near Talcott. Headwaters will use that Center to produce nucs and queens, to process honey, as a training center, and as a retreat facility geared toward apiculture and native plant horticulture education.
