Chemonics seeks a Markets and trade research assistant consultant for the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET). FEWS NET is a leading provider of objective, evidence-based food security analysis. Created in 1985 in response to famines in East and West Africa, the project currently covers about 36 countries. Led by USAID, FEWS NET implementing partners include NASA, NOAA, USGS, USDA, Kimetrica, and Chemonics, which manages the Washington technical office and more than twenty field offices in Africa, Central Asia, Central America, and Haiti. The ongoing 3rd phase of FEWS NET (2012-2017) relies on close collaboration with international, regional, and national partners on food security analysis and reinforcement of food security networks. FEWS NET food security analysis, early warning, and decision support for emergency food assistance rely on the monitoring and analysis of staple food, as well as cash crop, livestock, and labor markets.
