BUILDING INSPECTOR I Description Inspects new construction for possession of permits; checks for conformity with building code and approved plans and specifications qualifications, size of excavations, set-backs, foundation walls, vents, structural columns and beams; location and lay out of all steel reinforcing; inspects structural steel sections, wood trusses and roof braces, partitions firebrick and fireplaces. Checks for possession of permit and conformity to law in all alterations and major repairs, additions, and minor repairs to buildings or other structures. Investigates for possible non-compliance with City ordinances, such as appurtenances as slab s, doors, exists, fire escapes, wire glass doors, skylights, smokestacks, chimney and fireproofed walls. Secures evidence in cases of violation of the building code and assists in their prosecution. Keeps records of inspections and investigations and prepares reports.
