This position manages veterinary services and performs veterinary work involved in inspection, investigation, diagnosis, prevention, control, treatment and eradication of contagious and infectious diseases of animals; and performs related work as required. Ventura County Animal Services maintains a live release rate of 93%. Euthanizing will only be performed in cases of severe illness or irrepressible aggression. The incumbent is responsible for managing 2 veterinary facilities and personnel with a budget exceeding $850,000. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND BACKGROUND: Graduation from a school of veterinary medicine recognized by the Board of Veterinary Medicine of the State of California, and some veterinary background which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by a degree in veterinary medicine and 2 (2) years of Full time professional expertise in the practice of veterinary medicine.
