General Summary: Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, independently carries out and designs highly sophisticated and independent experiments. Will work in laboratory space dedicated to principal investigator with additional potential to establish successful project-specific collaborations related to autoimmune disease and inflammation. Cutting edge projects focus on innate immune events leading to cytopathic adaptive immune responses. Projects include novel inflammatory pathways that regulate macrophages linked to autoimmune kidney disease, arthritis and muscular dystrophy. Our studies focus on the impact of resident cells and myeloid cells in tissues targeted for destruction. Unique knockout mice with reporter genes have been constructed for these projects. These projects emphasize translational studies in patients. Our ultimate goal is to identify potential therapeutic targets/ biomarkers for myeloid-mediated diseases.
