Charge Entry and Coding Specialist This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of billed medical fees for the organization. Essential job functions: Compiles data from patient medical records to verify the appropriate codes for optimal reimbursement. Verifies principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and/or CPT coding conventions. Informs and educates providers as incorrect coding trends are discovered. Prepares the medical charge entry on a timely basis. Identifies missing fees by reviewing necessary reports. Keeps updated on all billing changes for 3rd-party insurance carriers. Keeps supervisor apprised of critical matters regarding charge entry. Performs chart audits as directed. Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Details (PHI) or other sensitive and personal info. High-school degree (or GED) required.
