AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER JOB DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, investigates alleged or suspected violations of Federal, state, or local laws, rules and regulations to determine if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution or to report findings to the appropriate jurisdictional authority for their action. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborates with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, transcription, and research. Conducts background investigations. Conducts internal investigations of law enforcement agencies. Examines records in order to locate links in chain of evidence or details. Identifies case issues and evidence needed, based on analysis of fees, complaints, or allegations of law violations. Obtains and verifies evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses, or by analyzing records. Obtains details related to cases. Prepares reports that detail investigation findings.
