Clinical Mass Spectrometry Chemist II - (Raleigh, NC)
Description of Work Save Lives and Create Futures with our Mass Spectrometry team in the Newborn Screening (NBS) unit. The NBS unit's primary purpose is to provide timely and accurate testing for North Carolinians in order to identify potentially life-threatening conditions in newborns. This newly created position is assigned to the Tandem Mass Spectrometry (MS/MS) Laboratory of the Newborn Screening Unit of the State Laboratory of Public Health. The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality assurance oversight to the Mass Spectrometry MS/MS laboratory and to serve as the MS/MS lab supervisor, reviewing laboratory data (including patient results and QC) prior to reporting, when the supervisor is absent. This position is periodically responsible for conducting clinical testing using LC-MS/MS during staff absences and times of increased workload. Additionally, this position provides staff training on the use of LC-MS/MS bench chemistry procedures.
