RN - First Assistant - (Centralia, IL)

Role Purpose: The Registered Nurse 1st Assist provides direct patient care to perioperative patients, and assists the surgeon with intra-operative procedures, while using the nursing process pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively. Responsibilities: Plans for patient care by collaborating with health teammates to develop, coordinate, and implement a perioperative plan of care unique to individual needs. Has excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique specific to general surgical procedures to work in collaboration with the surgeon. Verifies patient identity in accordance with hospital policy using the patient's name and date of birth. Participates in complete and accurate "Time-Outs" prior to induction, incision, and entrance of any additional staff/surgeons 100% of the time. Adheres to all Universal Protocol policies required by Joint Commission including enforcing and verifying site marking prior to entrance to the OR and all other patient safety standards.
