Position overview Join the leader in the innovative technology used in the production of continuous cast copper rod. Southwire owns a unique system called Southwire Continuous Rod(CSR). This system provides more than half of the copper rod continuous casting capability in the world. We are searching for an innovative Automation Engineer to develop automation and control systems for continuous melting, casting and rolling of copper or aluminum rod. In this role, the Automation Engineer will design and program logic for PLCs, drive systems, and combustion control systems. They will also develop Supervisory control and data acquisition element and operator interface applications. Other projects will focus on designing databases and writing custom computer programs for SCR systems, applying standard procedures to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components, diagnose and resolve issues. You would also create project manuals and electrical schematics using CAD.
