Senior Scientist, Salivary Diagnostics - (San Marcos, TX)

The Senior Scientist is responsible for assisting with the development of a lateral flow immunoassay that uses a swab acquired saliva specimen. The applicant must be a subject matter expert in human saliva, including its constituents, the physiology of its production, its rheological properties, and sources of its variability. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for applying this knowledge to the development of a point-of-care test for periodontitis (gum disease). The applicant should have either a MS degree with at least 3 yrs of background or a PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related position Skills and Background Required : Ability in the physical, chemical, and biological properties of saliva and its production Background with salivary diagnostics Ability to characterize properties of saliva such as its viscosity Good knowledge of the chemical and biological components of saliva such as mucins and enzymes Knowledge of the physiology of saliva production and the variation therein
