POSITION SUMMARY The news producer is transforming the work of The Times newsroom into audio. When working on The Daily, the news producer plays a critical role in the planning and making of timely episodes and covering breaking news on next-day turnarounds. They often take the lead on cutting and building episodes of the show. About a quarter of the news producer’s time is spent on the planning and pre-production of episodes, helping to develop episodes and lines of coverage. This includes : Pitching stories Participating in or holding pre-interviews with reporters and sources Working with senior producers and editors in writing questions for interviews Much of the news producer’s time is spent on production work, which includes: Logging interviews in studio and assisting with in-studio directing of host and guests Coordinating with senior producers and editors on post-production plan Cutting raw tape of reporter and source interviews in Pro Tools Building stories in Pro Tools using reporter interviews
