School Crossing Guard - (Hampton, VA)

Function This is a part time position responsible for safeguarding and regulating pedestrian traffic crossing streets in an assigned location in order to ensure the safety of children walking to and from school. Assists people needing directions. Works approx 2 (2) hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the public school year, excluding school holidays and non-school days. Specific hours are set by the Community Relations Unit and may vary according to demand and workload. Examples of Duties* Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.* Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign or extending an arm in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.* Follows oral and written instructions.* Enforces traffic laws and school zone speed limits at peak periods for school traffic; reports reckless drivers and traffic violators to the proper authority.* Stops traffic as needed to allow
