" RESPONSIBILITIES The FAA SWIM Identity and Access Management (IAM) Capability is providing a digital certificate service to issue and validate digital certificates to positively identify NAS systems and applications when sharing details. Identity and Access Management (IAM) is an identity management system for the National Airspace System (NAS). It issues and manages the identity credentials for NAS systems in the form of X.509 certificates to meet the strong authentication requirements of the FAA. In 2019, IAM will add additional capabilities to manage system-to-system authorization requirements. System Wide Details Management (SWIM) is an FAA initiative to modernize and manage system-to-system communications. SWIM provides messaging services to enable both internal and external communications using a brokered communications model as well as supporting web services, REST communications, and other mechanisms
