Job title: Toolmaker (versions: Apprentice Toolmaker, Manual Machinist) Division: Machining Department: Manual Machining Last Revised: 12/20/2018 Reports To: Manual Machining Manager Position Purpose The Toolmaker's job is to create quality parts with using manual milling, turning, and grinding equipment. A toolmaker may also use computer numerical controlled machines to produce low volume parts (non production). They should be able to produce parts at quoted rates, and also be responsible for the quality inspections on the parts they produce. Apprentices are learning the basics of manual machining while earning an Associate's Degree and Toolmakers are usually veteran machinists, often who have completed a 4yr apprenticeship and possibly earned a Journeyman Toolmaker card. Job Functions and Responsibilities Expertise to set up, adjust, and operate conventional machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders. Expertise to set up, adjust, and operate conversational machines.
