2019 Summer Internship - Agricultural Biotechnology Division (ABD) - (Davis, CA)

Description: The Agricultural Biotechnology Division (ABD) intern will work under supervision of scientists and is expected to learn molecular biology techniques used in transgenic plants experiments. Specifically, the intern will be introduced to and have hands-on background with: Extraction and QC analysis of DNA and RNA samples from plant tissues Running PCR - preparing samples, reactions, programming thermocyclers Preparing and running agarose gels, taking photographs, interpreting results Doing restriction digests and Southern blots In addition, the intern will learn plants work in research environment - in vitro and in soil plants propagation with all the associated procedures (media preparation, potting, watering, seeds collection, autoclaving). Depending on projects scheduling the intern may also learn and participate in: Preparing recombinant agrobacteria for plant transformation Doing plant transformation by floral dip method
