Assistant Port Engineer - (Mokena, IL)

This position is primarily responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance, repair and safe operations of all the engineering needs for assigned vessels and equipment. If you enjoy the challenge of proactively coordinating timely, cost-effective maintenance schedules while keeping the operation running smoothly, this position could be for you. Coordinate repair and maintenance functions for operating fleet to minimize loss of revenue and cost of repairs. Review repair requests and compare request with prior experience accomplished on towboat concerned and similar vessels to determine that expenditures are economically sound. Under the direction of the Port Engineer, prepare recommendations for work, and initiate procurement of materials. Inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces outlined in work request, draw up job recommendations and submit to the Port Engineer. Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work at min cost.
